Sonia Valda Hersalenka is a highly motivated and energetic student from the Vocational Program at Gadjah Mada University, majoring in English for Public Relations. She can communicate in business and public relations. She is also an enthusiastic learner who can work on a team or independently and an adaptable person who always wants to learn new skills and accept a new challenge.
She is very passionate about addressing issues of public concern and women’s empowerment. She is very active in journalism and is very keen on any discussion that focuses on the general problem. She has some experience in publishing content to mass media. She is also joining a student organization and community. This helps promote her interests in gender equality, empowerment, pluralism, tolerance, and human rights, fundamental to building a progressive and forward-looking society. She has always been interested in helping our community be more aware by making campaign projects during sexual violence and mental health during this pandemic. The project was called “End It Movement by Be One 4 Change,” an integrated PR campaign against sexual violence, specifically gender-based violence online (KBGO), which refers to the gender-based violence or sexual harassment that occurs online or is promoted through technology.
Sonia, through this project, has a PR role that encourages society to utilize social media as a platform to voice their innovation and campaign strategies regarding sexual violence from a mental health perspective. During that time, she also participated in some conferences to find solutions based on the objective and comprehensive analysis of national and international issues and developing soft skills such as public speaking, research, academic writing, and interpersonal skills. This helps her learn about leadership, enabling her to remember a few negotiation skills in organizations. She would often communicate in managing information dissemination between individuals, organizations, and the community.
